The Challenge

Sway, a packaging startup known for its seaweed-based, compostable alternative to plastic film, wanted an easy way to identify attendees during its headquarters celebration while staying true to its sustainability values. The team was looking for an alternative to disposable sticker name badges that would complement the event's ocean-inspired theme and align with Sway's mission to eliminate single-use plastic packaging.

The Solution

Unwaste provided 60 reusable name tags through our rental program, made from upcycled ocean-bound plastic. Every attendee received a durable, wipe-clean name tag without the need to purchase or store after the event — a fitting complement to Sway's own work replacing petroleum-based packaging with seaweed-derived materials.

The Impact

By renting reusable name tags instead of using disposable sticker badges, Sway prevented 60 single-use name tags from being used during the event, reinforcing the company's broader mission to cut plastic waste across the packaging industry.

The rental model also made participation simple and affordable. After the celebration, the name tags were returned to Unwaste, cleaned, and prepared for future events, keeping the materials in circulation and extending their useful life — mirroring the circular, low-waste model Sway champions in its own seaweed packaging business.
